Like all online marketers, I post my monthly income so you can see my Method™ is working. These report cards tell the story of how my niche websites are performing (in a way that doesn't get me in hot water with the taxman).

Christmas, New Year, alcohol, chocolate. That happened.

My beautiful websites recovering? Not so much.

I’m actually balls deep in productive work so this episode will be a short one.

I split these report cards according to websites 1) I bought 2) I made 3) I made with a partner.

Bought: Tech Site (B)

This is now a Wordpress site and it’s glorious! Now that it’s a bit more modern, I invested some money buying new articles. Income hasn’t grown in line with the site traffic, but I don’t really care. I’ll bring it all up to date then forget it for 6 months. Good plan!

Bought: Garden Site (D)

Copy/paste from last month: Ranks are still way down but having used my new tools to give it a big makeover, I expect a recovery soon.

Bought: Home Site (D)

Not a good month, considering it was Christmas. But around Xmas day I found a lifetime deal on some heatmap software. It was a fucking pain in the ass to register and install, but when the data started to come in I realised a couple of things about the homepage.

Basically, the homepage is really long, but most people only read the top. So I tweaked a couple of things and it went from #5 to #3 for the main keyword. Too late for Xmas, but a very very positive development!

Built: Review Site 1

Sold in summer 2018.

Built: Review Site 2 (C)

In October/November this site fell off a cliff. In December it hit the canyon floor and exploded into a giant ball of flame.

WEIRDLY it made a decent chunk of money, based on one day when Google let it rank where it should. But overall, a bleak future.

Built: Review Site 3 (A+)

The only site that had a proper good Xmas. Income was up 60% from the norm. If all digital property behaved like this, I’d have a sauna in the back garden by now.

Built: Education Sites (A)

December was a good month. The second best ever, I think.

The online course I’m making is a total headache. The technology of building a course on Wordpress is the opposite of slick. Today I made a tiny change and the whole site broke. Fortunately I had a backup.

That said, I’m really happy with how the course is shaping up and if the universe has any decency I will make billions from it.

Built: Others (A)

This is my basket of deplorables - 7 sites too new, small, or shit to warrant their own section.

One of these sites made 100 bucks, which is what it does. One made -15 because Google just fucking put it into a mortar and pestled it into dust.

But my failed authority site stopped failing - just at the right time! It made over 600 bucks. I expect it to go right back to failing in January, but I’ll take one good month thankyouverymuch.

Joint Venture: Authority Site (C)

This Christmas was supposed to be a bonanza that paid for my outdoor sauna. Nope! Google’s shitty updates put paid to those thoughts a long time ago. This Xmas we did half the sales of last year. Still, this site pays my mortgage, heating, food and old PC games. But a big disappointment.

Last Month's Goals

  • People give me crates of awesome wine for Christmas. It’d be rude not to drink it all! (Failed my goal of not getting fatter.)

  • I gave a couple of sites a makeover.

  • I wanted to have a ‘substantial chunk’ of my online course ready. Playing old PC games 5 days straight didn’t help. In the end I did 2 of my planned 14 units. It’s shaping up nicely, if slowly.

This Month's Goals

  • Online course: have the core content ready so I can do a February launch

  • Give the main authority site a nice makeover

  • Polish off the stored alcohol then be a bit healthier? Maybe exercise a bit?

Last Words

2018 was a big year. I quit my job and started doing websites full-time. Towards the end of the year that started to decline just as the cost of owning a 200-year old house started to add up.

2019 will be one of huge building projects - inside and outside the house. If these websites carry on in their current state, okay. If they go better, awesome. If they keep declining - lots of sleepless nights ahead!
